Darjeeling is the name of a renowned hill station of West Bengal region. It is located in the crag of the lofty mountains at an altitude of 2050mt. Overlooking the mesmerizing snow line of Himalayas Darjeeling has enthralled the mind of many people with its aromatic tea leaves. The valleys enclosing the scenic town are sprawled with lush tea gardens which are known for producing the finest organic tea leaves. Darjeeling is also the home of first hill passenger locomotive “Darjeeling Himalayan Railway”. DHR or as commonly known as “Toy Train” is one of the crown jewel of Darjeeling which has help to boost its tourism. In 1999 DHR was declared as a world Heritage Site by UNESCO. Toy Train still resembles its original state of 1881 with some of the authentic parts.

Blessed with temperate weather in summer season, Darjeeling till date retains its title of summer resort which was given during British Era. The unique landscape of Darjeeling has made it a hub for engaging in adventure activities like mountain biking, rock climbing, paragliding, and trekking. The most famous trekking route of Darjeeling is Singalila trek which start from quaint town called Manebhanjan. There are many tourist interest places in and around Darjeeling.

It is a popular hangout destination of Darjeeling. It is enclosed with the view of Mt Kanchenjunga on one side and colonial structure on the other. Chowrasta is the first vehicular and smoking free zone of Darjeeling along with free Wifi.

It is a well-manicured garden located below the taxi stand. Visitors can see the vast collection orchids and cactus while visiting Llyod Botanical Garden.

PADMAJA NAIDU ZOOLOGICAL PARK

Situated at an altitude of 7000mt, Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park or Darjeeling zoo is the largest and highest altitude zoological park of West Bengal. Darjeeling zoo is worldwide famous for its captive breeding of endangered species like Red Panda, Snow Leopard, Himalayan Salamander, and Tibetan Wolf.

Sited along the road between Darjeeling and Ghoom amidst the well manicured garden is Batasia Loop where the iconic Toy Train make 180degree turn to overcome a gradient. It is vantage point to catch the panoramic vista of Darjeeling town.

TIGER HILL

It is the famous sunrise point of Darjeeling. Perched at an altitude of 2590mt Tiger Hill is the highest point of Darjeeling. On a clear day visitor can witness the sunrise over grandiose Mt Kanchenjunga and its surrounding range.

Gleaming amidst the emerald green forested area is Japanese Peace Pagoda which has become the sign of brotherhood and peace in Darjeeling. The white washed stupa of Japanese Peace Pagoda is the located at a 10mins walking distance from Darjeeling.

Flanked across the cascading waterfall in scenic valley is Barbotey Rock Garden or Rock Garden of Darjeeling. It is a man-made picnic terrace garden which was built to boost the tourism of Darjeeling after the riot of 1980’s.

It is an eco village in Darjeeling situated along the periphery of Senchel Wildlife Sanctuary. Blessed with rich flora and fauna Chatakpur is famous for its surreal sunrise over snowcapped Himalayan range.

Best time to visit Darjeeling

Each season has its own beauty of relish in Darjeeling but summer season from April to mid June is considered the best time to visit Darjeeling to beat the heat of plain region. October to Mid December (autumn season) is the best time to partake in adventurous activities and catching an unhindered view of Mt Kanchenjunga and its surrounding ranges.
