Kalimpong is a historic town located on the ecological hotspot area of Eastern Himalayas. Overlooking the meandering river stream of Teesta Kalimpong is situated at an altitude of 1250mt. It is situated on a ridge of two hills Deolo and Durpin. Kalimpong is famous amongst the travel for being the base towards exploring the offbeat destinations sprawled across the lower Himalayan range. The colonial structure is one of the eye catching factors of Kalimpong. Surrounded with dense forest of alpine trees, Kalimpong is located at a distance of 49km from Darjeeling and 67km from Siliguri. On a clear day Kalimpong offers an outstanding vista of snow capped fortress of Mt Kanchenjunga looming above the adjacent valley. There are many places to visit in Kalimpong which are located in the good hiking distance.

It is a heritage site of Kalimpong. Established in 1900’s it is famous for showcasing the structure of colonial era. Dr Graham’s Homes School is often known as a tiny town since it has its own poultry, diary, and bakery.

DURPIN DARA

DURPIN DARA

At an altitude of 1372mt, Durpin dara is the highest point of Kalimpong. The hilltop of Durpin Dara offers an unhindered view of River Teesta cascading through the mountainous valley towards the plain region. On a clear day visitors can witness the pictorial site of snow capped Himalayan range of Western Sikkim from Zang Dhok Palri Monastery of Durpin Dara.

Overlooking the Roaring River Teesta Deolo hill is a favored picnic spot of Kalimpong. Deolo Hill is enclosed with the panoramic view of Kalimpong town on one side and snow clad mountain range on the other.

Located on the outskirts of bustling town amidst the pine and conifer forest is Pineview Cactus nursery or Kalimpong Cactus Nursery. It is the only place to buy and observe the vast collection of orchids and cactus in Eastern Himalayan region.

It is a museum dedicated to the ancient Lepcha Community of Kalimpong. Located below the Sports Ground visitor can learn about the myths and observe the ancient musical instrument in Lepcha Heritage Museum.

Perched at an altitude of 4070ft Pedong is a nature bound town of Kalimpong district. Located 22km from Kalimpong Pedong with its vast collection of Himalayan Avifauna has become the birding paradise for avid birdwatchers.

It is a shopping destination sited along the river bank of Teesta. Apart from buying authentic handcrafted good visitor can also experience the thrill of voyaging upon the untamed white tides of Teesta during white river rafting.

It is a scenically blessed hamlet sited along the periphery of Neora Valley National Park. Lava has a Nature Interpretation Centre which provides information about the flora and fauna of Neora Valley.

It is an offbeat destination of Kalimpong which offers an outstanding view of Mt Kanchenjunga on a clear day. Canopy Walk, a 150mt long suspended bridge leading towards dense forest is another attraction of Lolegaon.

The last hamlet of Kalimpong which has caught the limelight for its pictorial view of snowlines of Himalayas along with the view Nathula Pass, Tin Simana, Gangtok and Tibet Hills. The rustic style and serene ambiance of Rishop has made it’s the sojourn for travelers who are looking for solitude amidst nature.

Best time to visit Kalimpong

Blessed with temperate weather, the beauty of Kalimpong can be relished throughout the year. But autumn season from October to Mid December is considered the best time to catch an unhindered vista of Kanchenjunga range from Kalimpong.
